If drink is so cheap why are people smuggling it?

Seriously, why?

Alcohol smuggling has become big business for organised crime according to HM Revenue and Customs, with tax losses in unpaid duty as high as £1.2 billion per year. 

And this is on top of all the cigarettes that are smuggled in, not to mention the illegal drugs.

The result - watch as this accelerates if we introduce minimum pricing:
 

"There are certain areas of the country which de facto are no-go areas for legal and honest retailers," says Keith Webb, acting managing director of Bargain Booze. 

Not that the idiots in the Department of Health will take any notice as their policies allow criminals to kill off legitimate off-sales. After all they killed off the pub with their smoking ban and endless duty hikes.
